Water Analysis Testing is a powerful tool in identifying problematic water conditions in fire sprinkler systems. Corrosion is an electrochemical reaction that destroys fire sprinkler systems. The corrosion engineering testing involves physical, mineral, and microbiological culture analysis testing to identify conditions and formulate corrosion mitigation options in Fire Sprinkler Systems. The Water Analysis Testing is completed in compliance with “Standard EPA Water Testing”, “A.S.T.M. G-4-84 Corrosion Testing Standards” and “Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater” 20th edition for Microbiological evaluations. Huguenot Laboratories has over 75 years of combined in-field water treatment experience in multiple industry areas. Our goal is to maintain the most cost-effective and highest quality MIC and Corrosion testing services available for our clients. The following testing procedures are designed and certified to determine the extent of microbiologically influenced or generalized corrosion that may be occurring within a fire sprinkler system.

Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion Water Analysis
The water analysis testing is completed by a NELAP certified (National Environmental Laboratories Accreditation Program) laboratory and is accredited in accordance with NELAC. This specialized testing department utilizes certified testing methodologies to accurately determine mineral losses that contribute to deposit formation and under deposit corrosion. The bacterial analysis identifies acid or slime-forming bacterial strains that can rapidly increase localized corrosion in fire sprinkler systems.
These engineered MIC and Corrosion testing methods provide clients with a detailed assessment of their particular water condition. When a request is received for MIC water analysis testing, Huguenot Laboratories in compliance with NFPA 13. and ASTM guidelines will provide you with water sample test kits specific to the needs of your current sprinkler system. Once the samples are captured from a fire sprinkler system, they are then returned to Huguenot Laboratories for processing and reporting.
Once the analysis testing is completed a detailed report is generated which details the discovered results. Analysis of the water is utilized to identify corrosive water conditions and the presence of bacteria that are known to contribute to increased corrosion in fire sprinkler systems. A detailed assessment of particular mineral losses and bacteria culture studies are utilized to complete corrosion mitigation cleaning and treatment programs to correct identified problems or conditions. With this information Owner’s of fire sprinkler systems along with their fire sprinkler contractors can make informed and intelligent decisions regarding possible treatment and preventive measures for the protection of their investments.

Fire Protection System Water Supply Evaluation
Section 23.1.5.1 of the 2007 Edition of NFPA 13 states:
Water Supplies and environmental conditions shall be evaluated for the existence of microbes and conditions that contribute to microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC).
Section 23.1.5.2 of NFPA 13 states:
Water Supplies and environmental conditions shall be evaluated for conditions that contribute to unusual corrosive properties.
