Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion Water Analysis

The water analysis testing is completed by a NELAP certified (National Environmental Laboratories Accreditation Program) laboratory and is accredited in accordance with NELAC. This specialized testing department utilizes certified testing methodologies to accurately determine mineral losses that contribute to deposit formation and under deposit corrosion. The bacterial analysis identifies acid or slime-forming bacterial strains that can rapidly increase localized corrosion in fire sprinkler systems.

These engineered MIC and Corrosion testing methods provide clients with a detailed assessment of their particular water condition. When a request is received for MIC water analysis testing, Huguenot Laboratories in compliance with NFPA 13. and ASTM guidelines will provide you with water sample test kits specific to the needs of your current sprinkler system. Once the samples are captured from a fire sprinkler system, they are then returned to Huguenot Laboratories for processing and reporting.

Once the analysis testing is completed a detailed report is generated which details the discovered results. Analysis of the water is utilized to identify corrosive water conditions and the presence of bacteria that are known to contribute to increased corrosion in fire sprinkler systems. A detailed assessment of particular mineral losses and bacteria culture studies are utilized to complete corrosion mitigation cleaning and treatment programs to correct identified problems or conditions. With this information Owner’s of fire sprinkler systems along with their fire sprinkler contractors can make informed and intelligent decisions regarding possible treatment and preventive measures for the protection of their investments.
